I've kept my silence long enough. Part 1
I pity Nigeria attimes, because they look every bit like the ungrateful Isrealites of old from Egyptian captives. Because they fought against a leader God ordained and doubting God instead of appreciating him, they died off one by one in the desert. God took 40 years to kill all the critics, the rest of them moved on and entered the promised land unceremoniously. I hate to be a prophet of doom, but I fear for Nigerians. I was looking through a certain 'friend' of mine of facebook and his pictures were explicit and bad.I was appalled at his derogatory remarks about our leaders; people loosing respect and insulting fathers, mothers and grandfathers and grandmothers of people.
Is it just because of fuel subsidy? Does anyone even know the real facts about the Subsidy removal?Everyone is castigating a government that just came to see rot and wants to root it out, instead of asking the relevant questions of Who Caused it? Who Condoned it? Who is benefitting from it?Haven't we noticed that most of the leaders who reigned in the hey days of subsidy arent saying a word, but speaking through proxies and sponsoring mass protests? The NNPC; is it where Goodluck or Ngozi or Sanusi worked in the past? What do you and I know about landing costs? Subsidy on kerosene or petrol? 65 and 97, does it stop you from drinking to stupour at a bar or buying a 30-50,000 bottle of champaigne to impress your friends?
The mass protests the so called Labour called in Lagos and Abuja, was it for the entire country or for the entire nation? We in the Niger delta that buy fuel for 400 per litre even before January 1st, has labour come to our aid? Strikes in Nigeria are just for Lagos and Abuja people, not for the rest of Nigeria. Did labour, after thier discussion and resolution of 97 per litre comb all over Nigeria and arm twist service providers to revert to old prices since the price change was effected? No. Its the same Labour leaders who will go behind and try and enrich themselves. The Labour party, how is it funded? How did it start? isnt it from the monthly dues of the hapless workers who cant decide for themselves? Thats why there were little or no protests in the Niger Delta and South East region, because we all know how it will end.
ASUU, have labour mediated with the government over the prolonged strike? Is labour anything other than a strike organization? Tell me.
Lagosians came out and called our the head of the president, which is normal for all nations who organize mass protests, they came out again and protested the presence of soldiers (who deployed them is a talk for another day), they came out earlier and abused the government for putting toll gates (state government owned). What wont they protest about? Bakare came out and was barking with labour and after a while, his barking assumed a different note and the labour refrained from barking along. I think his bark was getting slightly deeper and he was gradually taking off the shine.
The strike is a hoax to me because, the Nigerian is the one who will benefit from a price change. The day the PPPRA declared 141 per litre, the pumps changed automatically in seconds to 145,150,160 and even 200, where was labour? When the price reverted to 97 per litre, suddenly the punp owners are lax in changing. Whose fooling who? Some people dont want this nation to change, and i fear that by the utterances of many Nigerians, it wont.
