The Young & Misguided Part Two

I really don't know who brought up the idea of "If you got it, flaunt It!", perhaps he/she didn't have Nigeria in mind. Lately, for those of us who patronize Nigerian Entertainment Blogs (some for want of productive endeavors, others for cheap gossip to spread), we have been bombarded with totally useless stories about entertainers who hit fame by happenstance and their lifestyles and actions. If its not how one of the billions of Nollywood actresses went shopping in Dubai, its how a musician ran into a deadbeat old time American act on the streets of New York and took a photo that instantly went online, or it’s how some manager bought a $2Million wristwatch for his client.

Oh! Don't get me started with the cars! You bought a car (which i learnt in Economics is a liability not an asset) and you post the photo online? Why not post the kind of fuel you will use in powering it? Or the made-for-celebrity car washing liquid you will use to wash it? Not too long ago, bubbles started bursting about who really owns the cars in the pictures we see online, I'm not surprised.

People love shiny things a lot. The pastor bought a Rolls Royce? Where did the car drop from? Heaven? If you did buy a car, thank God for favor, keep it low! And before i forget, next time you buy a member of your band a car, do it privately.... it works better! The real big boys don’t care for publicity, they don’t ask you to put the pictures of their newly acquired vehicles online! Why? They pre-ordered it online!
Now its the house-craze! So-so and so built or is building a house…how did the photo get online? Is there a paparazzi industry developing in Nigeria that I don’t know about? And why must the figures always be in the region of 200-500 Million Naira?

Why must they always be sited in Lekki? Whats all the hype about? Entertainers live their lives like the ignorant policemen who announce the presence of the cash in their bullion vans with sirens blaring and gun-totting meanies always sitting at the back of a truck. Some day, some daredevil hardened criminal with nothing to loose will just look their way and perhaps see a new industry in robbing celebs! It started with the older ones…Pete Edochie and Co…. when do you think they will pick interest in the young and utterly misguided? Yes! Criminals read blogs too!
