Everyone Loves Jega
Do you recall the sitcom "Everyone Loves Raymond" featuring stand up comic Ray Romano? or the equally thrilling family sitcom on the colorful past of Chris Rock? Well, thats where this note finds its origins. Do you recall when President Goodluck Jonathan sent Professor Morris Iwu home, a lot of people immediately started sitting up and taking notice and the impression of him being a silent puppet in the hands of a cabal. He was taking responsibility and seemingly, hitting the right spots which was another point evident when he re-jigged the Cabinet.
Suddenly and overnight, he became a hero, the first leader who wasnt scared of making the tough choices and was always willing to eat humble pie when the need arises, thank heavens so far he hasnt had cause to talk tongue-in-cheek.
So, lets say on that count that "Everyone Loves Goodluck".
Now, the question of INEC Chairman cropped up and our guy Ebele (President Goodluck Jonathan's middle name that just suddenly appeared when he got the Post and no time before then) had declared to the world against everyone's belief that 2011 would be free and fair. And conspicuosly sitting at the head of the organisation responsible adding credence to the President's dream was a man everyone loved to hate Professor Maurice Iwu. Will Goodluck do something about that? Will he dare the seemingly impossible his former boss Yar'Adua couldnt do? He once again shocked the nation when we woke to hear the bespectacled academic was booted out and the Presidency began shopping for a replacement.
The anticipation during this period was high, names upon names cropped up, National heroine, Cabal Exposer, Drug Baron Fighter and currently Minister for Information, Professor Akunyili was rumored as well as titanic legal luminary and former NBA helmsman Olisa Agbakoba (who wins my vote anyday). However, finally one name came out which kinda put a queer look on everyones face as to where and why he was a choice. Professor Attahiru Jega, until his appointment as INEC boss was a serving Vice Chancellor in a prominent Northern University was also a staunch member and "henchman" for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Based on this, Jega; the very first Northerner to occupy such position, gathered a cult following and a barrage of support from every corner of the nation.
For the First time, civil rights activists and sworn enemies of the government ALL AGREED the choice was a good one, Obasanjo never got that response despite his achievements, Yar'Adua didnt even touch the surface, Goodluck however gets the applause. Why? Because like former NLC President and now serving Edo state Governor who was a pest to the administration of the 4th Republic, Jega also has the activist blood running in his veins. Such men carve protection of thier integrity above all else. So we were sure like we were about Professor Akunyili that he shouldnt be like everyone else.
Now we hear the new boss asking for more money for INEC Voters Card in excess of 89 Billion Naira, and guess what everyones saying? Give the man the money for hevens sake! And thats not all, we are saying GIVE IT TO HIM NOW! Now tell me, what kinda divine favor is this? All the nosie about one man's appointment? In the last 9 months, the world has celebrated people in power who got there by merit and deserved ones at that matter. One is Barack Hussein Obama; the present US President from the Democratic Party , a son of a kenyan immigrant and a US citizen, another is Nigeria's President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and now Professor Jega.
Now Jega gets to star in his own serial "Everyone loves Jega", lets hope his series has content and quality at least for his PR ratings

When it comes to politics, if u ask me, no one should be trusted. As far as politics is concerned, I would say "always expect the unexpected & brace urself".
