WOJU VS GODWIN
These two guys are undoubtedly the hottest in the music industry right now and I feel i should just talk about their latest singles just the way i'm known to.
KOREDE BELLO "GODWIN"
Quite Frankly, Korede Bello's Godwin is a beautiful song that we can all agree has good lyrical content. In an age where people are more in tune with the beat and flow of a song rather than with the lyrics of the song, Korede has been able to get people to actually focus attention on the words and sing along.
And in delivering the lyrics, he leveraged on the sensibilities of the average Nigerian and African who is God-centric, both Muslims and Christians alike. The concept of a supreme being as the source and controller of everything is a strong belief among Nigerians, so when you hear the lyrics of a song (which happens to be his opener)I don get alert God-win, the listener is more likely to listen more and perhaps add an Amen to that too. Good try Korede, thats a wonderful way to capture attention and imagination. The song Godwin could easily pass for a gospel/motivational melody which a good number of Nigerian Gospel artistes dont seem to understand and leverage to increase their audience. Somehow they are deaf to understanding the dynamic and ever changing clime of the present music scene which is formed basically by music producers, good simple lyrics and a really badass music video! Thats all!
THUMBS UP
Like i said earlier, its a good motivational song which I strongly believe people will not forget in a hurry, just like Jaywon's Odunyi(This Year) among many others. The flow of the song from its intro which only Don Jazzy could pull off was a great teaser to the end of the song with its sharp cut that seemed to mean Thats all! Godwin scores high for me also based on the sing-along feel which is the main reason why songs of this nature stay longer than others. Every music lover most likely will remember a song that has a simple and tight chorus like Korede's God-wiiiiiiiiiiinn O, God-wiiiiiiiiiiinn O, God-wiiiiiiiiiiinn O!
MY THOUGHTS?
If Korede could read this, I will advise you to stay put where you are with the Mavin Family because I see you have a great path ahead of you! Your previews effort with the song African Princess is a song I wont ever forget. Godwin is the song to beat!
THUMBS DOWN
I think all artistes (old and new) have Lil-Kesh and Orezi of Shoki fame to thank for opening up the doors; not only for the unique beat, but also for the dance that has given producers the concept to craft beats to suit. I have noticed sadly that almost all songs produced by our post 2000 lead artistes and the Next Generation (or what you call "Upcoming") are following same. Ask Psquare (Collabo) Wizkid, Inyanya (Gift), Dbanj (Feeling the N****) among many others. Seems not many are thinking outside the box, except for those who never were in the box in the first place. Quite honestly, I was not to impressed by Don Jazzy for this, as I expected more. He is one person I admire for his creativity in producing unique beats.I never knew him to be one whose works could be predicted. Check out his latest works with with Dr Sid (Surulere) Di'Ja(Awww) and D'Prince (On Your Own).
KISS DANIEL "WOJU"
When I first heard of the name Kiss Daniel, I thought he was probably a contestant in Nigerian Idol or MTN Project Fame. Dont blame me, that's how they name themselves! LOL. After much searching, I found nothing! Kiss Daniel seems to have dropped in from nowhere and suddenly captured the imagination of many. Something like how Lil Kesh, Orezi, Sean Tizzle, Yemi Alade, Seyi Shay among many other current acts that never came through reality shows. (Thats another piece to another day).
Back to the song Woju! Firstly, the beat is madddt! The flow is good and the producer (DJ Coublon of MMMG) should be commended for the creativity. Even without a solid structure of a burgeoning Music Dynasty like Mavin Records, MMMG, Starboy, OBO, YBNL, Chocolate City. Northside and the likes, Kiss Daniels has made his entry strong, sweet and swift! Just like Korede Bello's Godwin, Woju has its strength is the power of its lyrics and its chorus. Once again, big ups to DJ Coublon. I wonder how this song would have sounded like if this song was given to Inyanya? Or maybe Davido who Kiss Daniel sounds so much like. Hmmmm
THUMBS UP
The song is a good dance song.and everyone will admit to it, with good flow. At least, It has had me playing the song over and over again.
Once again, thank you Lil-Kesh and Orezi of Shoki fame for the unique beat, Infact, I could say that the song Woju should have been the song that brought the dance into fame. Apparently, Lil Kesh & Orezi's version of Shoki seems to have died down, Woju has taken over. But that's where I have problem with it. When the song comes on, you just think about Shoki. The song has no separate identity. My Thumbs Down also touches on the lyrics of the song which I have always voiced my disdain for artistes who objectify women with their sex oriented lyrics. No be you I carry come, but na you I go carry go. It may just be a song to some people, but to others like me, sometimes even dance songs should have meaning. And a lot of the lyrics of Woju has none apparently.
MY THOUGHTS?
Kiss Daniel is a Next Generation artiste that could go a long way if he separates himself from the voice and figure of Davido. My fear is, I pray he doesnt end up as a one-hit wonder like some artistes of today. The reward for hardwork is more work. After Woju, what next?

Another great write-up... Super
