SALARY IS NOT A BRIBE!
I really feel sorry for the ignorant fellow who invented this phrase "Salary is the bribe they give you to forget your dreams", the latest lie being fed to young people these days. If Salary is a bribe, why do you finish school and "look for work" or even blame government for the so-called high rate of unemployment in Nigeria today when you could just finish your final papers and start chasing your dreams? Even the constitution doesn't expect you to work for the government for life! There's something called Retirement! If you don't want to be bribed, why seek a paying job in the first place?
Oh! You want to compare your life with Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or Zukerberg? My friend face reality! If truly Salary was a bribe, why don't you work for free? When you chase the dream of whatever it is, will your dream not require you engage people to build your dream? Will they work for free or will you not "bribe them?"
That's why our GDP remains dismally low despite the fact that a greater percentage of our population is made of able-bodied but not mostly "able-sensed" youth. And you notice it in the way they reason. A Salary is a monetary exchange for your time and skill devoted to the cause of an employer, thats it! Even though most employers are exchanging money for the unskilled and unreliable workers these days. Sad. When you resign to start chasing your dreams, what do you leave your employer with? salary or experience?
The problem is that the young people of today have unanimously decided to discard servant hood, the importance of mentorship, the value of tutelage and instruction and the merit of experienced direction. The adage "No man is an island" is gradually turning to an untruth just the same way "A tree cannot make a forest" is too. That's why many so-called/self-styled "start ups" will never succeed, because they refused to stay long enough to learn, get cooked and appear nicely done.
Everyone worth his salt today (and I don't mean the One-Hit-Wonder/Money-Miss-Road millionaires) worked under somebody! Even our LordJesus and Prophet Mohammed too! They learnt the ropes before they launched out on their own. Everyone needs a start up point, a foundation, a lower level because that's how life is and if your Master at that material time feels your time of learning needs some motivation via a Salary, see it as an honor not a bribe.
Receive wisdom.
